Do prisons have showers

yes they do shower on a daily basis UNLESS they are a management problem and housed in seg housing, if that is the case than a person will shower every other day.

my addition to the above written by another person is that in ad seg or a SHU (secure houseing unit) people often improvise by having what is known as a "birdbath" - they sit on the toilet & pour water over themselves useing a milk carton or other similar container. Often depending on staffing levels and the level of security required to take the inmate outside of his/her cell/house it is just not possible for all to shower each day, as in some max security prisons it is not safe to allow the inmates close contact with other inmates, and thus all to & from cell trips must be taken in handcuffs.

Of course in the case of a min or med security prison showers are much easier to come by. It (and all other priviledges) depend on the security level that the prison yard is (in the US levels 1, 2, 3 & 4) & levels of staff available to maintain said security. This may sound harsh, but it can in some cases be literally lifesaving as violence is a fact of prison life.
