Why have they changed the Monopoly game pieces?

The 1937 edition of monopoly contain three pieces that were replaced in the early 1950s:

• Lantern
• Purse
• Rocking horse

The 2006 edition, Deluxe Monopoly, included four additional pieces not used in the current, Classic Monopoly set:

• Locomotive
• Money Bags
• Battleship (introduced in 1940)
• Howitzer/cannon (introduced in 1940)
