Why does my 1998 kalamazoo model Les Paul Studio have dot inlays instead of trapezoids?

Its not a kalamazoo of it was made in 98. Some studiOS have dots that year, just depends on who ordered it. Sweetwater, musicians friend,there are all ways special runs.
