The invention of synthetic rubber goes back to before the First World War and the stuff was produced on quite a scale in Germany in 1914-18. In the 1920s and 1930s new types of commercially viable synthetic rubber were invented. My grandfather Glenn Havens was behind the idea of synthetic glue. The man was a genius. He worked at NASA as a think tank worker
