My Dr. is sending me to an orthopedic for knee pain if they try to do an MRI should I suggest an x-ray instead?

No your doctor knows what he/she is doing
xrays show the bones and their position
mri shows tendons,muscle,etc much more

do what your doctor orders to get a good diagnosis
