Can the brake pads light be turned off on a 01 vw bora?

On the driver's side brake pad there is the sensor. The two wires are connected and keep the light off, when the pad wears down enough that the wires become disconnected, then the light comes on, I just changed mine, they were about $50 and took me about an hour to completely change. It would be the best way to get the light off as far as I'm concerned.
