Why is Zack Fair called the puppy?

Zack is called "The Puppy" because, 1.) Angeal, his mentor, gave him the nickname while he was in SOLDIER, and 2.) because he holds many puppy-like characteristics, i.e his loyalty, fun-loving-ness, humor, and the God foresaken sad puppy look he has.
