Often, female children learn these lessons by the desertion of their fathers:
That men leave. They won't stick around. You can't count on them.
These girls "learn" that they, themselves are bad, not enough or are just plain unimportant. (Hey, if I were so special and wonderful, he wouldn't have left me.)
They learn to do anything in order to get male attention. They are often promiscuous to a self-destructive degree.
They usually are attracted to (and commit to) men who will fulfill this prophecy, the one of man who will eventually leave them. They are only familiar with the wobbly feeling of waiting for the other shoe to drop. The feeling of being in a healthy and secure relationship is so foreign that they don't recognize/don't know what to do with it.
These are just a few examples. The subject is vast as it is deep.
