What is primary MODS?

Primary Multiple Organ Dysfunction Syndrome (MODS) refers to the progressive failure of multiple organ systems in a critically ill patient, primarily due to a direct insult, such as sepsis, trauma, or severe infection. It occurs when the body's response to injury leads to widespread inflammation and tissue damage, impairing the function of organs like the lungs, kidneys, liver, and heart. Primary MODS is distinct from secondary MODS, which develops as a consequence of pre-existing conditions or complications arising from the initial insult.
