UK Police Officers are not required to wear uniform, but when they are in uniform, regulations require them to display their collar numbers.If an officer is not in full uniform, they must show you their warrant card if you ask.

A survey carried out in 2009 by 'Police Review' magazine found that only 53% of officers always displayed their numbers when in uniform.
