Why does a government restrict the amount of immigration in a country?

I don't really know, maybe because they don't want to increase the population as the recession is making people lose jobs, although in Wales, people are actually finding them.

In some countries, it might be because of autocracy or communist governments. I'm just guessing cuz I'm only in yr7.
