You should be able to eat 40 grams of carbohydrate and lose weight. However, if you gain weight easily and find it hard to lose, you may be insulin resistant. Many overweight people are insulin resistant without being aware of it. If you were, you might need to drop down from 40 grams. For a carbohydrate-restricted diet, the usual range is 20 to 50 grams daily. The best way is to experiment and discover what amount works well for you. Unlike protein and fats, there is no minimum daily requirement of carbohydrate in order to flourish physically. Although there is no daily minimum requirement, they do have many beneficial phytochemicals and fiber so eating some is fine as long as they are not refined (processed) carbohydrates. Get your allowance of carbohydrate from natural sources such as (preferably organic) fresh non-starchy vegetables and fresh low carb fruits such as berries. ----
