Why did the humans destroy the dodo's habitat?

Humans did not plan to destroy the dodo bird, but that is exactly what happened. When they were first discovered the dodo was very easy to catch as it could not fly and wasn't afraid of people. They became a popular source of fresh meat for passing ships. As a result, they were rapidly hunted to extinction. The introduction of pigs, rats, and cats to the island also helped wipe them out.
