Yes, fire bugs eat plants. But the insects in question (Pyrrhocoris apteru) do not feed upon just any plant part since they specializing in seed-feeding. Entomologists have no idea of the full range of host plants even though they know that adults and nymphs particularly direct their piercing, sucking stylets to extract fluids from lime, linden and mallow seeds.
