How do you know how many people search the internet for a particular subject?

One useful resource is the google KeyWord Tool.

The site allows you to enter any term (subject) and then it shows you how often that term has been searched for at google.com. It also shows keyWord competition, global searches and local trends. You can enter multiple terms at once to see which is the most popular.
