well as we all know with a torch and welder anything will go in but if that's not what you are asking the of course stock luv 1.8 will or the earley s-10 1.9's will fit right in but a good up grade is a small block Chevy with a little work you can put a sbc in no prob.
I dropped a 2,2L out of an 85 trooper in an 80 Luv 4x4... baffled me for weeks why the parts interchange manuals all said it wouldn't work when it finally donned on me the 2.2L has a manual fuel pump & the Luv an electric pump mounted on the frame which I used leaving the manual pump (in case the non-rebuildable electric one failed) & drove the truck for 5 flawless years of hard use before dodging a skunk & dropping it in a 30 foot ravine that broke both front axles & bent the frame
