What are amphitheaters?

An amphitheater is an oval or round building with tiers of seats around an open central area. It can be either roofed or open-air. They are used in circumstances where the spectator needs a good view of the proceeding in the central area, such as an athletic event, a race, a lecture with demos, an amusement event, or in some circumstances, a play.
