How did Jayavarman VII come into power?

Jayavarman VII came to power after a period of political instability in the Khmer Empire, following the death of his predecessor, King Yasovarman II. Initially serving as a military leader, he gained prominence by successfully repelling invasions from the Cham kingdom. His rise was further supported by popular support and his significant military victories, leading him to be declared king around 1181.
