The prickly pear propagates and spreads in its natural environment through a process called vegetative reproduction. This occurs when a segment of the plant, such as a pad or a piece of the root, breaks off and grows into a new plant. Additionally, the prickly pear produces fruits that contain seeds which can be dispersed by animals, wind, or water, allowing the plant to spread to new areas.
