There are a number of possible reasons.

  • A comparison of resumes may give several candidates who seem to be equivalent. You may need more to help determine the best person.
  • There may be things in the resume that are not sufficiently clear. Gaps in the employment history, for example, which may have a simple explanation (maternity).
  • A resume may not give any indication on how you present yourself in person. In some jobs, your presence, inter-personal communication skills may be critical.
