A number of his novels and short stories were produced for the movies or TV, starting in 1897: Oliver Twist, Martin Chuzzlewit, Dombey and Son, Tale of Two Cities, A Christmas Carol, Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, The Old Curiousity Shop, The Signalman, Our Mutual Friend, Cricket on the Hearth, David Copperfield, Hard Times, Barnaby Rudge, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Bleak House, Pickwick Papers, Little Dorrit, The Chimes, Mrs. Lirripers Lodgers. Many were produced by foreign countries, and many 'spin offs' have been made, often lifting a character out of a novel and developing the story around him or her. The earliest movie of an actual novel was in 1903.
