First thing is you have to gain access to the front lower part of the engine, There is a plastic shroud to protect that area that has to be removed with a screw driver. There is a flat silver pan with a sensor attached to the bottom in the front, as your looking at it the drain plug is towards the driverside front wheel. The oil filter is directly in front of the oil pan. One thing to remember is that the A6's take six quart's of oil, I made the mistake of only putting in five quarts once and it affected the cars performance. I would still check the dip stick after the car has been running for awhile, becauase a few of the A6's will take an additional 1/2 quart. Good luck
