What happens to edward when he sees the volterra in new moon?

he asks them to kill him, as he thinks Bella comitted suicide, & the Volturi refuse.

so , instead, he decides to walk out into the parade in the street in the sun, so the Volturi will kill him because he has exposed himself as a vampire.

thankfully, Bella comes and rescues him before he does. (Y)
