What is murphys sign?

To assess for the presence of Murphy's sign, the examiner hooks her fingers under the right bottom edge of the rib cage and asks the patient to inhale. If Murphy's sign is present, the patient will experience pain and stop inhaling as the irritated gallbladder gets closer to the examiner's fingers.
