In many ways he shortened the Depression by putting a lot of people to work. But he may have also contributed to the depth (not the length) of the Depression by raising taxes and curbing government spending too early.

As far as prolonging the Depression, that was pretty much shut down by WWII and FDR didn't have any control over when that started.
