Why would your DVD player not play DVD-RW discs?

all DVD players have a component that is programmed to read a certain list of disk types. there are many different types of components and yours probably reads the DVD+r instead of DVD-r. which it reads is a guessing games more often than not. only DVD recorders state which disk they are compatible with.
