Many of my peers believed that tax refunds were free money from the government, not realizing that they are essentially a return of overpaid taxes. Another common misconception was that only high-income earners need to file taxes, when in fact, anyone earning above a certain threshold is required to do so. Additionally, some thought that tax deductions automatically lower their tax bill, overlooking the importance of understanding their taxable income and eligible deductions.
