Could you check and correct this short letter?

and if there is sth i should correct. ? This is a letter from school to some girl in Spain and i have to tell her about myself.

Hi Sandra,

My name is Mary and I'm 16. I live in Poland in Zakopane. It's a small town at the foot of the Tatra Mountains.

The school just started and the winter is coming. I'm happy because I will be skiing and I love it. This is my favourite winter sport. During summer holidays I've been (OR I WAS?) to Croatia on a(THE) windsurfing course. It was amazing!

Apart from sports (despite? i dont know which one i should use) I also like watching movies. My favourite are comedies and romantic comedies like "That's my boy", "Horrible bosses", "Haunted house" etc. I like horrors too, but I'm scared while watching alone. I watch at least 1 movie a week.

I have a dog named Bruno. He is a very clever German Shepherd. Even though he's only 7 months old, when he stands on his back legs he's taller than me. I have a lot of work with him but I don't care couse I love him so much!
