How did the Allied forces end the war in Europe?

Basically the war ended when the allied forces forced German (axis) forces to surrender.

Some may argue that the Yalta conference of U.S., Soviet and British leaders did the trick, but the factual war ended after the German forces were overrun and Berlin was occupied (or "liberated", if we use the Soviet terms, which are still used by Soviet Union's successor, Russia).
