We are usually unaware of ground-to-cloud lightning because it occurs high in the atmosphere, often out of our direct line of sight, and is less common than cloud-to-ground lightning. Additionally, the visual and auditory cues associated with thunderstorms, such as thunder and rain, typically distract us from noticing these upward discharges. The phenomenon is less studied and reported, leading to a general lack of awareness among the public.
