I need to ask you if this feels like your garden variety sore throat, or if it's something different. If it's just a sore throat, there are a million causes, but most are more annoyances than anything else. Watch for a high temperature as a good indicator. If you get over 100F, call the doc. Over 101F, go to the ER. On the other hand, no fever and it feels different, e.g. ONLY hurts at a certain point in the act of swallowing, may indicate a growth. For every deadly growth of this kind, there are a zillion harmless ones, so don't worry. Take a look with a flashlight in the mirror and see if you can see something there (but don't touch). If you can, then you'll need to talk to a doc about it. Most of this type of thing either goes away on its own or gets a minor procedure and it's all fixed. But some do need more atttention -- so get it checked. One last thought -- if whatever this is interferes -- even a little -- with your breathing, off to the ER you go Right Away.
