How did U-boats impact the war?

They had an impact against Great Britain, not the US. Britain is an island(s), not the US. Subs were strangling Britain, not the US. The US wanted to fight Japan, Germany did not attack Pearl Harbor, Japan did. The US bailed out Great Britain because Churchill lobbied FDR heavily before and immediately following the Pearl Harbor attack (Churchill wanted assurance that Britain would receive priority!).
