Limestone (CaCO3) in the presence of acid converts into carbon dioxide and ions of cacium. The chemical formulae are:

CaCO3(s) + H3O+(aq) = Ca2+(aq) + HCO3-(aq)

HCO3-+ H3O+(aq) = CO2(aq) + 2 H2O(l)

H3O+(aq) + CO32-(aq) = HCO3-(aq) + H2O(l)
