Ethan Allen was a key figure in the American Revolutionary War, best known for leading the Green Mountain Boys, a militia group in Vermont. In 1775, he famously captured Fort Ticonderoga alongside Benedict Arnold, which provided critical artillery for the Continental Army. Allen was also a strong advocate for Vermont's independence and later sought to establish it as a separate republic. Additionally, his efforts in the war and his writings helped promote the ideas of liberty and self-governance among the colonists.
