Why is bullying a serious problem?

Bullying hurts people, and it drives so many to commit suicide. In the past, it wasn't as big a deal since children were all raised in 2-parent homes. That taught security and stability, as well as a healthy dependence on others. So children started school in a less vulnerable state of mind than now. Also, we now have technology that didn't exist before. You can now bully a person without even going near them and have the entire world as a witness. You can post doctored videos of them online, defame them before many, and use technology to set people up to be harmed by others. So the impact is not the same as in the past where if someone gave you a bruise, you'd put some ice on it and that would be the end of it. It is now more vicious, even with less physical violence.
