Why does a 1995 Nissan pathfinder click but wont start everytime?

After along time waiting we got the answer there was a security key switch added to the vehicle which was hooked to the key switch so this was cutting the volts down from 11.7 to about 5 volts so there was not enough power getting to the starter.
