What was the Hitler youth?

The Nazi Party's paramilitary youth element called the Hitler Jugend was formed in 1922 and remained in existence until 1945 as a recruiting and training tool designed to produce future party leadership. Some considered it to be simply a form of Boy Scout group however it provided an ideologicical foundation that went beyond good sportsmanship and recreation.
