Why is transported rock material more common then residual rock Materials in the soils of New York State?

Transported rock material is more common than residual rock materials in New York State due to the influence of glacial activity during the last Ice Age. Glaciers advanced and retreated, eroding bedrock and carrying sediments over vast distances before depositing them in various locations. This process created a diverse array of soil types composed of mixed materials from different geological sources, rather than allowing for the development of residual soils that form in place from the underlying bedrock. As a result, much of New York's soil reflects this glacially transported material rather than being derived solely from local bedrock.
