Why was Saint Dominigue one of the richest colonies in the Caribbean?

Saint-Domingue, now known as Haiti, became one of the richest colonies in the Caribbean due to its lucrative sugar and coffee plantations, which relied heavily on enslaved labor. The colony's fertile land and favorable climate facilitated the production of high-value cash crops that were in great demand in Europe. Additionally, the exploitation of enslaved Africans created immense wealth for plantation owners and the French crown, making Saint-Domingue the most profitable colony of its time.
