First, the native Amazonians settle on a small size of land. The cut the trees down and clear it. They use it to farm. When the land becomes infertile they leave and move on to a new land. Over time, the land goes through an ecological succession and plants and trees grow back. The Indians hunt and fish while there as well. POO is used to help their plants grow (as a fertiliser).
