Finland was not officially occupied by Germany during World War II, but it did collaborate with Germany from 1941 to 1944 in the Continuation War against the Soviet Union. Initially, Finland sought to regain territories lost to the Soviets in the Winter War of 1939-1940. Although German forces were stationed in Finland and provided military support, Finland maintained its independence and military command throughout the conflict. After the war, Finland negotiated a separate peace with the Soviet Union and expelled German troops from its territory in 1944.
