How do you know if a transmission mount is bad?

First what type of car is it. rwd or front wheel drive? you can visually inspect depending on what type of car ,vibration while accelerating,cluncking noise when trans shifts gear 1st to 2nd mostly, this being the hardest shift under hard acceleration. or just take the vehicle to have the mounts inspected.
