What is interstate and intrastate?

Interstate crosses another state or states. Intrastate stays within a state. If you live in New York City and send a letter to your mother in San Antonio, Texas, your mail will travel interstate. If you live in New York City and send a letter to your cousin in Albany, your mail will travel intrastate.

Think of internet versus intranet: data on the internet is broadly available to users, whereas data on an intranet is available only to the users within the business hosting the site.
