Is there too much emphasis on individualism in todays society?

This answer can not be answered empirically or scientifically, but socially, historically, and based on my opinion I would have to say one hundred percent yes. But I also have seen that the emphasis on individualism is not specific to our society, basically every era of human history starts with people working together at the bottom of the human pyramid, then as they approach the top, their focus, moves to only their group of associates, then only their family, then only him (or her) and his very immediate lover then finally only him(her)self, and crash and burn, restart of cycle.
