To round a number in math, you look at the digit immediately to the right of the place value you want to round to. If that digit is 5 or greater, you increase the target digit by one; if it's less than 5, you leave the target digit unchanged. Finally, all digits to the right of the target place value become zero or are dropped if rounding to a whole number. For example, rounding 76.4 to the nearest whole number gives 76, while rounding 76.6 gives 77.
