Why did ichabod linger after all the other guests had left?

Ichabod lingered after all the other guests had left because he was hoping to spend more time with Katrina Van Tassel and perhaps even confess his feelings for her. He was infatuated with her beauty and wealth and wanted to prolong their interaction.
