Giraffes, like all mammals, do not fertilize eggs externally; instead, they reproduce through internal fertilization. Male giraffes engage in courtship behaviors to attract females, and once a female is receptive, the male will mate with her. During mating, sperm is transferred to the female, where it can fertilize the eggs internally. After a gestation period of about 15 months, the female gives birth to a calf.
