The fizz from soda comes from dissolved carbon dioxide. In the closed bottle, the carbon dioxide is in a state called equilibrium. That means the carbon dioxide is constantly moving from dissolved form to gas form and vice versa. The temperature of the drink determines how much is in the gas state and how much is dissolved. If the soda is cold, there is more carbon dioxide in dissolved form than in gas form. However, if you let the soda heat up, more of it escapes out of the liquid and into gas form at the top of the bottle, causing the drink to go flat. Therefore it is best to keep soda in the fridge, so that when you come to drink it, more fizz will be left in the liquid!
