Since you asked this as a personal question I will give you my personal answer. Psalm 119:105 Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. (KJV) The way I have been taught and the way that I see it, our lives are a journey. We start as a newborn and grow into adulthood and then continue on till our bodies give out. This is a journey because during our walk through life we have to make choices. Just as we do when we are driving we constantly make adjustments to out direction. If we drive down the road with our headlights off at night we will drive off the road into a ditch or take a wrong exit because we did not follow the directions or see the sign. It is just as dangerous, no, more dangerous, to go through life without a guiding light. Jesus Christ is my guiding light. He shows me the way to go and He lights the way so that I won't stumble. In the Gospel according to John 1:1-4 it says: In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. (KJV) Jesus is the Word and the Word is the light that guides us. By following Jesus' teachings we have a beacon that will shine the way for us. Will we stray from the light? Saddly yes. Will Jesus "Leave the light on for ya?" Yes He will. I let Jesus guide me. He is my light in a dark world. That is what that passage means to me and that is how it applies to my life.
