Many military funerals utilise music as part of the service tribute. Or it can be used during a flag ceremony. The tune 'Butterfield's Lullaby,' sometimes known by the first line of the lyrics 'Day is Done,' is generally played on a Trumpet or bugle. The same tune, also known as 'Taps' is sounded by a bugler at dusk.
The lyrics, written by Horace Lorenzo Trim, are as follows
Day is done, gone the sun
From the lakes, from the hills, from the sky
All is well, safely rest
God is nigh.
Fading light dims the sight
And a star gems the sky, gleaming bright
From afar, drawing near
Falls the night.
Thanks and praise for our days
Neath the sun, neath the stars, neath the sky
As we go, this we know
God is nigh.
